Week Five '2A' Preview

It’s pretty much district game time in Class 2A. Let’s see what district games will entertain us on Friday night…

1st District Games
--Webster County @ Reidland
--Heath @ Lone Oak
Two Paducah-area rivals square off in a game that could determine who’s going to the playoffs and who’s staying home.

2nd District Games
--Owensboro Catholic @ Butler County
The Aces got back to their winning ways last week with a win over 4A’s Daviess County; they can establish their district position with a big win in Morgantown.
--Edmonson County @ Todd County Central

3rd District Games
--Western @ Christian Academy-Louisville
One of 2A’s powers begins their district campaign Friday night, as the Western Warriors should pick up an easy win against the Centurions.
--Larue County vs. DeSales (at Doss)
--Washington County @ Elizabethtown
E-Town is a very quiet 3-0 so far; a win is needed here to set up a titanic battle next week at Western.
--Moore @ Shawnee

6th District Games
--Morgan County @ Russell
It looks like Russell will, once again, take the 6th District with relative ease. Their top challenge may come from Morgan County, although the Cougars have dropped their first three games.
--Fleming County @ Lewis County
--Powell County @ West Carter
--East Carter @ Estill County

7th District Games
--Middlesboro @ Cawood

8th District Games
--Magoffin County @ Belfry
Belfry’s run to a district championship might face more hurdles than Russell’s road, although Magoffin County isn’t expected to be one of those hurdles.
--Pike County Central @ Shelby Valley

District Game of the Week
(1st) Fort Campbell @ Trigg County
It will be Western Kentucky’s finest 2A matchup of the year. Fort Campbell is proving they can win with a Mr. Football on the roster, while Trigg County has rolled through four opponents by a 151-27 count.

Other games of note that aren’t of the district flavor…

--Bell County @ Corbin
The Bobcats hung around against one of 4A’s best—Henry Clay—two weeks ago. Corbin picked up their first win last week. It should be a fun game.

--Ashland Blazer @ Prestonsburg
After the Tomcats lost to Raceland to start the year, many said this game would be their first win. Following wins over Belfry, Russell and Portsmouth South (Ohio), Ashland Blazer is looking for their fourth victory.

Game of the Week
--Boyle County @ Mercer County
Despite being 1-3, Boyle County is still Boyle County. The Rebels have lost their last two games by a five point total. However, the road gets even tougher, as Boyle County faces a “titanic” test on the road at Harrodsburg, only against the new Mercer County.

Other games: Knott County Central vs. Perry County Central (at Hazard), Gilbert (WV) @ East Ridge
