Week Six 'A' Preview

District season is in full swing now. Here's a look at some district contests to watch...

1st District Games
--Ballard Memorial @ Murray
Simply put, the winner here should be assured a playoff position.

3rd District Games
--Bardstown @ Fort Knox
--Campbellsville @ Kentucky Country Day

5th District Games
--Newport Central Catholic @ Dayton
After a stunning loss to Covington Holy Cross, Catholic must be careful with Dayton, which is a solid 4-1 on the season with wins over three 2A and 3A opponents.
--Beechwood @ Ludlow
--Bellevue @ Covington Holy Cross
After a big district win, Holy Cross must hold serve at home against Bellevue, a team that can't afford to go 0-2 in the district.

6th District Games
--Lexington Christian @ Bath County
With Raceland out of the way, Christian now can count off the games until they clinch the district championship. But Bath County is a sleeper in this district; could we have an upset on our hands?
--Berea @ Raceland
--Paris @ Fairview

7th District Games
--Harlan @ Lynn Camp
Given Somerset's early struggles this season, this game might decide who goes on to challenge the Briar Jumpers for the district title. Harlan already owns two district wins, while Lynn Camp is looking to climb back to .500.
--Cumberland @ Evarts
--Williamsburg @ Pineville

8th District Games
--Paintsville @ Phelps

Now for the rest of the action in Class A...

--Paducah Tilghman @ Mayfield
Despite the Blue Tornado's 0-4 record, it should be a good one in Western Kentucky. Mayfield's two losses have come to 4A opponents (Marshall County and Graves County).

--Danville @ Hazard
Good luck Hazard. Danville is the undoubted #1 team in Class A (the folks in Bardstown might argue otherwise), while Hazard is a solid 3-1, but their loss came to class rival Harlan.

--Garrard County @ Frankfort
Here's another good 3A vs. A matchup. Frankfort has dropped two straight, both games to 3A opponents incidentally (Franklin County and Mason County). Garrard County should be a good team for Frankfort to get back on the right track.

--Belfry @ Pikeville
It'll be a war in the mountains on Friday as Class 2A juggernaut Belfry heads to nearby Pikeville High School for a epic clash. Pikeville has run off three straight wins, but it'll be hard pressed to earn a fourth consecutive victory by beating the Pirates.

Game of the Week
--Louisville Holy Cross @ Bethlehem
After a devastating loss to Bardstown, Holy Cross must recover quickly in order to topple undefeated Bethlehem on the road.

Other Class 'A' hosted games: Reidland @ Fulton City, Butler County @ Hancock County, Whitehouse Hermitage (TN) @ Caverna, Pendleton County @ Owen County, Bracken County @ Trimble County, Betsy Layne @ South Floyd, Knott County Central @ Allen Central
